Little Bear

As I am sure you are all aware, life can get a bit hectic; with work commitments and overseas travel, seeing family, friends, and the general responsibility of being an adult, it's sometimes nice to just take some time out, have a break and totally recharge. So, with this in mind, once or twice a year my husband and I like to treat ourselves (and our two little puppies) to a luxury staycation here in the UK.

When looking at properties we generally have three main criteria - it has to be isolated (we like to feel like we have the whole area to ourselves), allow four legged friends, and most importantly have a hot tub! And last year, whilst perusing Unique Home Stays I stumbled on 'Little Bear' - a quirky luxury cabin in the woods located in the beautiful Weald Downs in West Sussex. It ticked every box, so we excitedly booked ourselves in for a nice long weekend away.

We arrived in late September, just as Autumn was slowly starting to take hold. Surrounded my meadows and ancient woodlands, it was the perfect place to unwind, drink in all the changing colours and absorb as much of the last bits of summer warmth as we could.

Approached from the car park a 5minute walk (they leave a wheelbarrow for you to transport your luggage) down a beautiful leaf splattered path through woodland, we found Little Bear.

The cabin interior was everything you imagine a luxury woodland cabin to be, the small but perfectly formed open plan interior was beautifully designed and styled with a cosy rustic charm, dotted with antiques and covered in a multitude of different textures - metals, woods, leather, fur and sumptuous luxury linen. There was a kitchen, living area with wood burner, double bed, bathroom with shower, and a secret little reading nook in the loft. The best thing about this place however - no tv, no wifi and no mobile signal, perfect for getting back to nature and a much needed digital detox.

We were also welcomed with a delicious gourmet welcome hamper filled to the brim with goodies - including Prosecco (v.important!), olives, popcorn, cheese biscuits, nuts, chutney, shortbread and chocolate. You even get to keep and take home the hamper basket, which I of course loved.

To the outside of the cabin lay a large garden and meadow with a wood fired eco hot tub (which takes a good 4-5 hours to heat up), fire pit for roasting marshmallows and two loungers for soaking up some much needed sun or even stargazing with a cup of warm hot chocolate as we did! The garden then opens up straight into acres of ancient woodland...

We spent so many hours meandering through the woodland and exploring its little nooks and crannies  - the puppies were in absolute heaven and to be honest so were we. We didn't hear or see a single other soul (apart from birds and a few little woodland critters).

We had a truly magical weekend away, time to properly switch off from the outside world and get back to nature (with a little bit of luxury thrown in of course). We will treasure our time at Little Bear, and eagerly await our next little staycation adventure...
